Moon Hall Dorking; moving on to secondary.
When transitioning from Moon Hall Dorking to secondary school, we work closely with parents and children themselves to ensure that each child’s next step is well suited to their character, aspirations and learning needs.
The Headmistress regularly visits a broad range of secondary schools that our children progress to, and we aim to keep in touch with past pupils to follow their progress.
The Headmistress is always happy to meet with parents to discuss options for individual children, based on her knowledge of the child themselves, their family situation, and the range of schools available. Formal preparation for transfer begins in Year 5, with initial interview practice for children, which is then followed up in the Michaelmas Term of Year 6, along with parent meetings to discuss choices and plan transition.
The majority of pupils will remain within the independent school sector. Some schools request children to sit entrance examinations, in which case additional assistance can be provided. A number also return to the maintained sector.
Our Senior School at Moon Hall Reigate is a popular choice as children are familiar with the facilities, staff and grounds. Sharing the Moon Hall ethos and governing body, as well as close links throughout the schools ensures a smooth transition for children and parents alike.
If moving on to a full time boarding school, the options available for children at Moon Hall Dorking of flexi or weekly boarding can provide invaluable preparation.
As well as moving to our Reigate site, other Independent senior schools popular with MHD children include:
